Tropical island paradise now even safer

Local and international tourists set to converge on the Philippine tropical island paradise of Boracay can take comfort in the knowledge the island is even more secure, even if it means they may have to get in line.

The provincial government of Aklan is now implementing Provincial Ordinance No. 15-03, which calls for Boracay resort Guests to enter and exit from only one island dock. The ordinance, meant to tighten security and improve the comfort of tourists in this world-famous Philippine island paradise, will also clear Boracay’s waters and beaches from the motorboats that used to crowd area before ordinance implementation. It also protects tourists swimming in the waters from being hit by wayward motorboats.

The Cagban Jetty Port in Barangay Manoc-Manoc at the southern end of Boracay is now the sole entry and exit point of Guests of every resort in Boracay. This is in stark contrast to the previous system, where boats were able to dock at any of three boat stations along the island’s four-kilometer stretch of white sand.

At the Cagban Jetty Port, Guests will be submitted to a security check to ensure illegal drugs, prohibited firearms and ammunition, explosives and the like, will have no way to enter the island. Equally strict security checks will also be implemented at the Manoc-Manoc beach, where bulk cargo, construction materials, and other deliveries may enter the island.

Security for its Guests is an important issue to Boracay. Boracay tourism contributed almost P8.18 billion in revenues to the Philippine economy in 2005.

We at the Boracay Sandcastles, of course, will shuttle our Guests straight to our resort. Upon arrival at Cagban, a Sandcastles service vehicle will fetch you and bring you to your Boracay room to kick off your Boracay visit in comfort and style!
